Permanent Installations

The Free Black Women’s Library is working with Providence House by installing permanent book collections in transitional living spaces for women and mothers of young children in New York City.

Providence House provides housing, counseling, classes, and other social services for their residents for up to two years, and assists them in finding homes long term. These book collections will be available to all Providence House residents.

Virtual Reading Challenge

The library invites readers from across the globe to join us in reading 25 books of varying genres by Black women in one year. The Library offers a list of categories and suggestions to serve as a guideline, and all are welcome to jump in anytime.

Readers post their reads and reviews on social media, tag us, and use the hashtags #TFBWLReads & #TFBWLreadingchallenge
to stay connected to others taking part in the challenge.
